Green Bananas
It’s been two weeks now since I made my big grocery run to Publix. I need to go again today! While I was there, I decided to buy 5 slightly green bananas and 3 really green bananas. This way, we could enjoy them at just the right ripeness (is that really a word?) over a week period.
Unfortunately, my planning did not succeed. Why, you ask? Well, we ate the slightly green bananas in a 2 day period and those 3 green bananas…well they are still really green. After two weeks they are now turning brown but have not ripened at all. They have been so hard, you could actually hurt someone with them.
So, I guess that’s the last time I will buy fully green bananas. Just thought I’d share my random banana experience with you.
The LBD Dual Significance: Life doesn’t always turn out the way I expect. Even with careful planning, good decisions, and Christ in my life, I still do not ‘deserve’ to have everything peachy keen. It’s what I do with the curve balls in life that really challenge me to live out what I believe, not just what I know.
2 Timothy 3:12a Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.

Oh shoot. I just did the same thing at the store today, with the same intent. I guess I’ll let you know in a few weeks if my green bananas are stone-like, too. By the way, I read that when they turn gray like I imagine yours have, that means they were refrigerated too cold for too long and they will never ripen, as yours did not. Tough break.
And the verse…is that really what it says? You might want to add some context. That sounds odd.
Good to know. Publix gave me 3 free bananas this past weekend to replace them. I like good customer service.
What about the verse sounds odd to you?
The context is Paul writing to Timothy and encouraging, edifying, and equipping him in ministry. Right before this, Paul is discussing the difficulty and evil of the last days and he continues through verse 12 to encourage Timothy to endure because of Christ…even through imminent persecution.
I believe 3:12a, though short and maybe surprising is exactly what is true in and of itself and what our Americanized Christianity culture of personal comfort and happiness needs to hear.
See also John 15:18-21, Acts 14:22, 2 Corinthians 4:9, 1 Corinthians 4:12 for further reading on the topic.
Thanks for the discussion! What do you think?
Hmm. I think it sounds fine tonight. I guess I just wanted to make you take a deeper look at it or something. =) I’m in a study where we’re going through the entire Bible in 3 years, rather fast but deep at the same time. Anyway, we started and finished Job this past week. Yep. Makes perfect sense to me. And it is, though true, an uncommon perspective of God and Christianity.
Wow. I’m so tired I feel like I’m writing you a personal email instead of a comment on a blog. Woah. Open eyes! Open! Well I’m glad to be chatting to/with you in any form.
